Is the Heisman a two horse race now??? Will Troy Smiths performance against what is turning out to be a very very very good UM defense determine the Heisman depending on BQ's performance at USC?

Peterson is out of the race and Wolfe got shut down today. The only other guys I could see putting there money in is Patt White, Calvin Johnson and a healthy Mario Manningham....

Who is this two horse race you are speaking of? Cause if it's Brady Quinn..then you better give CJ a better shot than the little you implied. Right now it's a one horse race, with CJ and Slaton fighting it out for second.

Troy Smith (75)
Calvin Johnson (37)
Steve Slaton (34)
Brady Quinn (31)

It'll be Troy Smith or Brady Quinn. Troy is playing good and Brady Quinn plays for ND

As long as Smith doesn't get hurt it's pretty much his. With their opponents left (Excluding Michigan) I can't see anyone being able to prevent him from padding his stats.

I wouldn't give it to BQ regardless. In their biggest game at home this year BQ stunk up the joint bigtime. Smith may lose to Michigan (and I hope he does), but I doubt he plays that bad, and with Ohio State's team I think it's safe to say even if they lose and Smith has an average game that it still won't be as bad as ND and BQ's performance against Michigan.

If Michigan beats OSU, and Quinn comes out and blows USC away...nevermind.

If OSU gets beat by UM and makes Smith look bad (not completely impossible) it's Slaton's trophy. He won't get less than 130 yds in any game the rest of this season. Pat White is finally 100% which will allow Slaton more room to run.

Sorry Steeleer, but even if Slaton deserves it at season's end he won't get it. The heisman voters will never give the trophy to a sophomore.

That and the fact one bad game by Smith wont lose him the Heisman because so far he hasn't had any bad games and with the teams coming up on their schedule the only one he might have a bad game in is the Michigan game. Smith is different then Quinn in that he has already shown his big game ability this year. Quinn did awful in his big game early in the year.

Heisman should be the best player in College Football.

I don't care about his numbers (even though Calvin's are very good) and I don't GIVE A SHIT if he returns kicks or not. Give him the Heisman, NO ONE is a better player.

It's the best QB award. They have two of those- didn't you know that?

WR's that only receive passes aren't going to get the prize. Smith will have a bad game or two and make this interesting before the year is out. If he doesn't and they finish the season undefeated this will be the largest margin of victory for winning the Heisman in quite a while. That being said, you could put Steve Slaton on OSU and get at least as good as numbers, but Smith at WVU with our good (not great) WR group would bring down Smith's numbers a good bit. That's how I define a great player (Slaton and Johnson) versus a very good player on the team with the most overall talent. The Heisman voters don't care about that, but they should.

Get ready for it to be a large margin of victory then. Ohio State plays joke opponents until that Michigan game.

The voters have redefined the award over the past 20 years, slowly but surely.

My ballot would be Johnson, Slaton, Smith - depending on how Johnson and Slaton finish out their games. They are both really good.

Who cares if Slaton is a sophomore? Peterson probably should have won it when he was a sophomore. Herschel should have too.

If Herschel didn't win it, no soph will. He had a better year in 81 than he did in 82 when he won it. I didn't say he wouldn't be worthy but he won't win it.

As far as Smith, he clearly deserves it now. The guy has been sensational. Two road games against ranked competition on national tv and he was exceptional in both. That's how you take home a trophy. While I think that CJ is the best athlete and pro prospect, he doens't deserve the Heisman. For a WR to win it without returning kcks as well, his numbers have to be eye popping and CJ's, while very good, are not. 10th in ypg at under 100 and 3rd in tds just isn't enough if you don't put up return numbers as well.

Smith did nothing yesterday to lose the Heisman. Johnson however pretty much lost his shot.

The scary part is that Slaton has been mostly a decoy the past 2 games while Pat White is running wild. The voting would have been interesting if White wasn't injured (vague shoulder/latissimus "strain") for much of the first 4 games of this season. He is throwing well at the right time.

The ESPN Heisman is updated today and has Brady Quinn in second place. That disturbance you feel is the earth falling off it's axis and heading directly towards the sun as just punishment for putting that overrated hack over Slaton after ND had a rousing come from behind win where the WR did all the work on that last TD. He's been average at best this year. I wouldn't put him in my top 4.

1) Smith (it's his to lose)
2) Slaton
3) Rice
4) Wolfe
5) Everyone else.

I think they should only invite Troy Smith to New York for the ceremony, I mean who are we kidding, nobody else has a shot unless he throws about 6 INT's against Michigan

They should just void the Heisman if the year ended now.

There's no one at this time that is deserving of a Heisman.

How can anyone say Calvin Johnson? Look at these three games against Troy, Clemson, and North Carolina:

Troy-- 2 catches for 9 yards
Clemson-- 0 catches
North Carolina-- 3 catches, 13 yards.

I dare say that I will be more surprised if Troy Smith DOESN'T win the Heisman than if he does.
